UPDATE ON CALVIN CLUTE

With Calvin Clute's permission I am posting this update on his health. Last week Calvin went to M D Anderson in Houston for a consultation on his cancer treatments. Calvin was expecting to receive some encouraging news, rather he heard his doctor say, "We can do nothing for you. Go home and set your affairs in order." Calvin believes, as do we, in the power of prayer so he has asked that we join him in praying for both God's provision and God's healing. Please encourage Calvin and remember to pray for him.

A NOTE FROM PAM BODENHAMER RE WOMENS MINISTRY

Hey Ladies, Hope you gals are having a great summer! Your Women's Ministry Leaders Team have been busy planning some fun things for the summer. We want to let you know about these plans so that you can get them on your calendars. Be sure to read all the way to the very end for a very exciting announcement! First, Treats for Troops is set for Thurs. night, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Senior room at the FLC. Bring your favorite summer dish and come help to pack up much needed items for our church family members who are serving our country in the Armed Forces. This is such a special way of letting these wonderful folks know how much we care and how grateful we are for their sacrifice. If you have any questions please contact Carrie Rose at 348-3603. Secondly, WHAT'S COOKIN'!!!! On the evening of July 26, the Women's ministry will be hosting a cooking class for our youth. We are inviting all you experienced cooks (and we know you are out there) to demonstrate a simple dish that our youth could learn to prepare on their own. Each demonstration will have a table set up and the cook will actually be able to prepare the dish. This can be a really fun and educational evening for our ladies as well as our youth. Please give some serious thought to being a part of this fellowship. We would love to have your help and expertise! Look for further info to come. For more info or to volunteer to demonstrate a dish contact Mary Lindsey at 349-2686. Thirdly, Dinner and a Movie! We have planned an evening that is just for fun. Join us at Debby Hammit's house to watch a movie. For those of you who have been to Debby's house, you know that she has a HUGE screen to watch a movie on. We plan on having a very lite meal, something like salads, and then just sitting around and watching the movie, visiting and snacking (of course!). This evening is set for July 28 at 6:30 pm. For more info or to suggest a movie contact Pam Bodenhamer at 348-3828. Fourthly, the Teachers Luncheon!! This year it has been set for August 18. As always, we need volunteers. This is a great way for the teachers to start the year and a wonderful opportunity for us show our appreciation to this group of very special folks. Contact Sindy Bankhead for more info or to volunteer. Finally for the big announcement!! BETH MOORE LIVE!! First Baptist Church has the opportunity to host a live broadcast of Beth Moore. The dates are Aug. 28 and 29. She will be speaking live and we will be watching from our own church auditorium. This will be open to all ladies that wish to attend, so invite your family and friends. We will let you know about the cost and the detail as we firm them up. If you have any questions please contact Pam Bodenhamer at 348-3828 or Sindy Bankhead at 348-3816. Well, that's it!! I told you we have been busy planning some wonderful opportunities for you. Put them on your calendar and plan on attending. It won't be the same without you!!! God Bless you and keep you all safe!Pam

VBS THURSDAY UPDATE

We have just completed our 4th day of a great Vacation Bible School. Wednesday morning's session was highlighted by 13 boys and girls making a decision. Then Wednesday evening's Family Night gave moms, dad, grandparents, and First Baptist Family a first hand look at what the children have been involved in throughout the week. Our attendance has been great with over 200 children and 100 leaders involved. Pray for Friday's session as we conclude our week of teaching these precious boys and girls about Christ.

DOROTHY GILL

Please pray for Dorothy Gill. She went to St. Joseph's in Bryan this morning to have a stint implanted. The blockage was too severe for a stint so she is scheduled to undergo heart triple bypass tomorrow (Friday June 19) at a time yet to be scheduled. She is staying overnight (Thursday) in the hospital.

PHASE TWO BUILDING PROGRAM

Last night (Sunday) the Long Range Planning Committee met with the Nursery Committee to discuss the nursery portion of the Phase Two Remodeling. An idea was shared about how to provide the nursery with more space. We are now taking bids from architects to develop the details of Phase II which will include the nursery, adding elevators to the building, and upgrade the radio and television broadcasting ministry. When we receive the bids for the design we will bring a report to the church and ask the congregation to provide the funds for the expense of the architectural design.
